Story 1:  Five Good Changes Caused by the Pandemic That Might Be Permanent

In the long run, could the pandemic actually end up IMPROVING our lives in some ways?  Here are five good changes we’ve had to make that might be permanent . . .

  1. More work-from-home jobs. COVID forced companies to figure out how to handle remote workers.  So there’s a good chance you’ll see a lot more of those jobs out there, long after the pandemic ends.
  2. Watching new movies at home. Theaters won’t go away.  But movies might hit on-demand earlier.  And releasing them in theaters and on-demand at the same time might happen more.
  3. Having groceries delivered. It’s a lot more popular now than it was pre-COVID.  And grocery stores have worked out how to get it done.  Alcohol delivery has also boomed.
  4. Telehealth and teletherapy. It’s cheaper, and they can see more patients.  So talking to doctors and therapists online before you see them in person might become the new norm.
  5. More outdoor dining options. Restaurants have had to invest in ways to serve people outside.  And a lot of those outdoor areas will stay.

Story 2:  The Creator of Jelly Belly Is Giving Away a Candy Factory, Willy Wonka Style

If you’ve got a child with behavior issues who needs to be taught a gruesome lesson and then possibly have that lesson explained to them in song by Oompa Loompas, maybe keep them away from this contest.

A guy named David Klein is the founder of Jelly Belly jelly beans.  He’s getting ready to retire.  So he’s giving away one of his candy factories . . . Willy Wonka style.

Here’s how the contest works.  He’s gone to all 50 states and hidden a special necklace in each state.  For $50 at TheGoldTicket.com, you can get a ticket to a scavenger hunt for the necklace in your state.  (If the link is not working, it’s because the website has been having some connectivity issues.)

And if you find it, you get $5,000 . . . plus you’re entered in the grand prize drawing, where one of the 50 winners will get the candy factory.

Story 3:  A Salon Had to Remove “Happy” as a Job Requirement Since It Discriminates Against Unhappy People

Are people’s MOODS really a protected class?

A hair salon in Stroud, England recently put up an ad for a new stylist, and one of the lines said, quote, “This is a busy, friendly, small salon, so only happy, friendly stylists need apply.”

But the owner got a call last week from a local job center saying she needed to change the ad.

Why?  She says the job center told her, quote, “The word ‘happy’ is a discriminatory word and we aren’t allowed to use it, as somebody who is not happy will be discriminated against.”
