Nebraska Football Adds 39 on Signing Day

By Kaleb Henry Dec 20, 2023 | 2:35 PM

Nebraska football took its next step forward in the Matt Rhule era.

The first class to see a Rhule-led season play out has signed to join the Huskers. The class includes 38 incoming freshman and on transfer.

“Today, for me at least, is always a day of gratitude,” Rhule said at a Wednesday morning press conference. “It starts with all of the young men who have made the decision to sign with us, both the guys who have signed scholarships and the guys who are coming as walk-ons.”

247 Sports ranks the Nebraska class as No. 22 in the nation and sixth in the Big Ten Conference.

The lone five star is quarterback Dylan Raiola. The Husker legacy decommitted from Georgia just this week before signing to play in Lincoln. Raiola joins Bellevue West’s Daniel Kaelin as incoming QBs.

“It’s about teaching them to play quarterback the way we want our quarterbacks to play,” Rhule said. “That’s why I didn’t want a quick fix. I want to build this thing with guys who have been in the program, who learn our way of thinking, our way of seeing the field, our way of viewing defenses, our way of calling protections, our way of training.

“I think as we move forward, everything will be earned and nothing will be given. It will be great competition. It’ll be great learning and great development. We have some pretty special players in that room.”

Also in the class are several four star recruits. Among that group are Carter Nelson (TE; Ainsworth, NE), Grant Brix (OT; Logan, IA), Roger Gradney (ATH; Garwood, TX).

The group hails from 13 states, including 16 out of Nebraska.
