Story 1:  Five Bad Habits to Avoid First Thing in the Morning

Mondays are tough, but are you making them even harder than they need to be?  Here are five bad habits to avoid first thing in the morning . . .

  1. Hitting the snooze button. Over half of us do it, but studies show those extra few minutes of sleep don’t actually help.  So you’re better off setting your alarm for a more realistic time, and training yourself to wake up the first time it goes off.
  2. Immediately checking your phone. Checking texts and emails or reading the news in bed are some of the most stressful ways to start your day.  Better options include stretching . . . deep breathing . . . drinking some water . . . or saying hi to your kids.
  3. Starting your day with a sugar rush. It sets you up for a roller coaster of being hungry, moody, and then tired again.  Cereal and sweetened coffee are the two biggest culprits.
  4. Not washing your face. Pillows are covered in oil and dead skin, especially if you haven’t washed them in a while.  So even if you wash your face before bed, it’s not a bad idea to wash it again in the morning.  Just don’t use a harsh cleanser both times.  Soap and water are fine.
  5. Completely overlooking your own mental health. Having to rush around is what makes mornings so stressful.  So going to bed and waking up earlier really is important, because it gives you more time to ease into things.  That said, even a small routine like opening up the shades and letting some sun in can help.

Story 2:  A Guy Stole an Engagement Ring from His Fiancée to Propose to Another Woman

If you really think you can secretly pull off two serious relationships, you can’t go cheap and pull amateur moves like THIS.

There’s a 48-year-old guy named Joseph Davis.  And he met two women about six years ago through OKCupid . . . one in Orlando, Florida and one in Orange City, Florida . . . and he’s been in serious relationships with both of them.

He used a fake name in both relationships . . . one woman knew him as Joe Brown and one knew him as Marcus Brown.

Joseph proposed to the Orlando girlfriend . . . but he recently decided he wanted to propose to the Orange City one too.  So he STOLE the engagement ring he’d given to his fiancée to give it to his other girlfriend.

The Orlando woman figured out something was going on, and when she started searching on Facebook, she spotted the Orange City woman wearing the ring.  The women got in touch with each other . . . and the police.

And on Thursday, they put out an arrest warrant for Joseph.

Story 3:  The “Crying from Laughter” Emoji Has Been Named Uncool by the Younger Generation

At least teenagers haven’t declared that ALL emojis are uncool . . . yet.  How would any of us communicate without them?

Unfortunately, there does seem to be a consensus that one emoji is DEFINITELY uncool . . . and it’s one you probably use a lot.

It’s the “crying from laughter” emoji, which is the laughing face with tears coming out.

One reason it’s so uncool?  It’s become too mainstream, man.  According to the website EmojiTracker.com, which monitors emoji use on Twitter in real time, it’s by FAR the most used emoji . . . and it’s been at or near the top for at least four years.

CNN interviewed some young folks about the emoji and their responses are brutally honest.  One 17-year-old said it’s, quote, “bland” and people his age don’t use it . . . and a 21-year-old said she didn’t even know where to find it on her phone’s emoji keyboard.
