Story 1:  Are You Messing Up These Six Common Phrases?

We make fools of ourselves on a daily basis, so we’re used to it.  But could you be doing it accidentally without even realizing?  Here are six common phrases a lot of people get wrong . . .

  1. Do you “flush out” an idea, or “flesh it out”? “Flesh out” is correct.  It means you’re adding substance or “flesh” to something.  “Flush out” is when you make something leave its hiding place.  Like flushing birds out of a tree, or “flushing out the truth.”
  1. “Chomping at the bit” or “champing at the bit”? Both are okay, but the original phrase was “CHAMPING.”  It’s when a horse grinds its teeth on the piece of metal in its mouth.  Now we mostly use it to mean you can’t wait for something to start.
  1. “Set foot in” or “step foot in”? “Set foot” is the right way to say it.  Saying you wouldn’t “step foot” somewhere is technically wrong.  Stepping is something you do with your feet, but you don’t “step foot” anywhere.
  1. “Hunger pains” or “hunger pangs”? Most people say “pains,” so you’ll get away with it.  But it’s really “pangs.”  It means a “piercing spasm of pain.”
  1. “Case and point” or “case in point”? Your case is “in” the point you’re making.  So it’s “case in point,” because they’re one and the same.  (By the way, “one AND the same” is the right way to say it.  “One IN the same” is wrong.)

Story 2:  If You Bought an iPhone a Few Years Ago, You Can Probably Get $25 from Apple’s Lawsuit Settlement

You know how your iPhone slows down after a few years?  Back in 2017, Apple admitted that was ON PURPOSE . . . but they swore it was to try to improve battery life, not just to push you to upgrade.

Well . . . they got sued.  And they wound up settling the class-action lawsuit for $500 million.  That works out to roughly $25 for every iPhone they throttled.

So you should go through your records to see if you or your family members owned any of these before December of 2017:  iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S Plus, or SE . . . or iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.

As long as you have the serial number of the phone, you can go to SmartPhonePerformanceSettlement.com and claim your piece of the payout.

Story 3:  A Shirtless Selfie Hurts Men’s Chances in Online Dating

If you aren’t doing as well in online dating as you think you SHOULD be, here’s some advice:  Put ON a shirt, bro.  According to a new study by Dating.com, men who use a shirtless selfie in their online dating profiles get 25% fewer matches.

Why?  66% of women say that those pictures show a lack of maturity and self-awareness.  And 76% of women don’t think guys with shirtless selfies are long-term relationship material.

Now, if you’re wondering, “Does this same thing apply to women who post bikini photos in their online dating profiles?” . . . absolutely NOT.

The study found about one in five women have at least one bikini or bathing suit picture in their profile . . . and they get 40% MORE matches than other women.
